This contract contains information regarding class expectations, procedures and grading. It is also downloadable from Canvas in order for you to print out the third page which needs to be returned, signed by first class of second week of school. It is posted here for easy reference.
Internet use relating to course:
Students are expected to use online sources to receive course information, assignments, research materials, supplementary reference material such as images, websites, videos relating to course content.
Teacher/Student Communication: I will be communicating with students via MHS gmail and/or Canvas. A class group will be created. Students will need to check their MHS gmail regularly. The ART 2 Wikispace will contain assignments and supporting info and visuals. A link to the Wiki will be on Canvas, under my name and Visual Art 2. In addition, you will find course information and calendar posted on Canvas and on my Art 2Wiki:http://mhsart2.wikispaces.com
Daily Grade: In order for the class to be a positive experience for all, it is important that expectations are understood and agreed upon from the beginning. You will earn a daily participationgrade which will be averaged per marking period as one grade. This grade will positively or negatively impact your overall course average which consists of assignment grades, sketchbook grade and participation grade per marking period. The participation grade will be 20% of each MP grade.
Grading: Assignments will be graded based upon timely, successful fulfillment of stated lesson objectives as well as uponeffort and improvementof the individual student.
Interest, active participation and a demonstrated desire to improve are the key ingredients for success in the course.
Incomplete assignments and late submissions: Non submission of an assignment on the due date will result in a grade of 0. A grade will be given upon submission of work. Late submissions will be graded at a penalty of one grade per each week late. Late work submitted after the end of the marking period will not warrant a change in marking period grade already recorded.
Sketchbooks are due on the first class of each week. Sketchbook submissions 2 weeks + late will not be graded.
Mobile devices: Students may use their phones, ipads, laptops for course related purposes only. If student is observed using these devices for other activities (ex. texting a friend, checking facebook), the device will be taken to the office for student/parent pick up depending on the frequency of the offense.
DAILY GRADE
The daily participation grade is based on adhering to the following expectations on a daily basis:
Come to class on time, prepared to work both with required materials and
With your focus on course content. Teacher detentions for 2nd and 3rd tardies,
Subsequent tardies referred to administrator.
All school rules regarding dress code, language etc. are enforced.
Inappropriate use of mobile device: First offense-warning. Subsequent offenses-phone taken and brought to office at end of day for student (2nd) or parent (3rd) pick up. If problem persists, administrative action will be taken.
Do not bring food or drinks, with the exception of water.
Listen attentively to instruction; follow directions the first time given.
Do not talk when I am talking. Do ask pertinent and thought provoking questions.
Remain in the classroom for the entire class or receive a detention.
Use materials and tools with care and in a manner appropriate to the lesson.
Abuse of materials, tools or classroom fixtures is vandalism and will result in immediate administrative disciplinary referral.

Clean up at end of class: Includes
Cleaning all work surfaces
Cleaning and drying tools, including brushes, palettes, containers
Returning materials and tools to the proper receptacles and shelves
Storing your work neatly in portfolio and/or placing in designated area.
Please be advised that if you leave a mess for me to clean up, you will be assigned a lunch detention during which you will be expected to clean common areas (eg: sink) and/or organize art materials.
Teacher detentions will be assigned for non-compliance with any of the above rules and procedures. After two teacher detentions for the same offense, administrative action will be taken. If detention is not served within the stated time, administrative detention will
result.
Detentions will be in art room at lunch on Thursdays only. Detention must be served within 2 weeks of the infraction - you must make appropriate arrangements. You may bring food to detention. No makeups or rescheduling with the exception of illness or excused absence from school.
We understand that the above expectations must be met on a daily basis and that
participation counts as one project grade, constituting 20% of the marking period grade. We also understand that a B or lower for participation can lower an otherwise A to B for the course average.
