SKETCHBOOK 2013-14

SKETCHBOOKS DUE IN CLASS 9.16-17.2013. A spiral bound sketchbook is required.
Do not purchase a "sketchpad".

FIRST SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENT DUE 9.23/24


ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ON A PAGE OF SELF ADHESIVE LABELS. IF YOU LOSE THE PAGE, YOU MAY VIEW THE ASSIGNMENTS ON THE CANVAS LMS.

Here's how it works:


  • Only submissions in sketchbook will be accepted - no separate pieces of paper will be graded.

  • Choose one that intrigues you at the moment and affix to the back of the page you choose to use-(it may be a page you have prepared or you may work over a less successful drawing, or blank)

  • Draw and /or collage image. The drawing needs to be from observation but the style is your own.

  • Due dates for submissions: first class of the week. No submissions accepted after one week past the due date - unless extenuating circumstances like sickness apply.

Grade: You will receive a grade for sketchbook each marking period. There will be on average 8 due each marking period. (See schedule). Each individual sketchbook will be assigned a 25 points. These will be averaged at the end of marking period with an average of 25 =A+. The 25 points breaks down like this:
  • Timeliness = 5 pts.
  • Craftsmanship = 5 pts.
  • Creativity - includes exploration of media = 5 pts.
  • Composition = 5 pts.
  • Care or effort demonstrated = 5pts.

At some point during the first marking period, a blog will be set up for the class. From that point forward you will be required to post your work on the blog to share work with all students in the class.

IN-CLASS SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENTS/ACTIVITIES:

  • Design the cover of your book. This assignment will have pre-instruction: a review of elements and principles of design as well as display and discussion of some published book covers with compelling designs. Lay out strategies will be discussed and project criteria detailed.

  • Your name, Course and period # must be readable and fit visually within your design.




























Note: A/o 2.1.10 All students are required to have a sketchbook. Please submit homework assignments in sketchbook.
